A SHORT STORY to begin the day with Faith and Positivity
In a village in South India, there was a poor Brahmin, who read BHAGAWATAM to people all his life, and with whatever Dakshina he would get from them earned his livelihood . One day a rich Landlord invited him to do BHAGAWAT KATHA.
Many people from the village assembled there, As the Brahmin was reciting stories of Bhagawatam. Amongst them was a thief, and as the Brahmin was reciting how Ma Yashodha adorned little Krishna with various ornaments, and described each ornament, the thief listened carefully, and thought if I could get my hands on those jewels, it would be a fortune for me.
He waited till the Katha was over, and followed the Brahmin. It was night, and the thief stopped the Brahmin, with a knife in his hand. The Brahmin was scared and said that all he has is the dakshina he got from the katha, which would feed his family . The thief said he doesn't need the money, but the address of the little Krishna, whom he described in the Katha, wearing all ornaments.
The Brahmin, to get rid of him said that he would be found in Mathura . And when asked how to recognise him, the Brahmin described Krishna, and said that he and his brother will be seen at the time of Godhuli, and before he comes he would hear melodious music of the flute he plays.
The thief immediately leaves to Mathura, and climbs a tree and waits for Godhuli. Suddenly he hears a mellifluous music, and two cowherd boys all covered in dust raised by the Cows.
He jumps down the tree, and one glance of Krishna mesmerises him, and when Krishna asks why he stopped them, he says I want nothing, but your grace. He remains in wonder. Krishna says did you forget ? You wanted my ornaments. The thief denies it. I just want you and embraces Krishna.
Krishna immediately vanishes leaving a bundle full of his ornaments. The thief not interested in the ornaments anymore took the bundle, and went to the Brahmin's house, gave the bundle of jewels to him and said I don't want the jewels. The little boy who gave me this, didn't come back the next day. Tell me his address.
My eyes thrive to see him once more. Stunned , when the Brahmin opened the bundle, all the ornaments that ma Yashodha adorned little Krishna with, as described in BHAGAWATAM were there in the bundle. He frantically asked the thief where he found them, the thief innocently said that in Mathura at GODHOOLI. He cried saying that all his life he did nothing but read and tell Bhagawatam to people, and he didn't get darshan of Krishna, but an illiterate thief, who knew nothing, but Faith, could get Darshan of Krishna.
More than literary erudition, and knowlege of Shastras, what is needed is FAITH. FAITH MOVES THE WORLDS, AND MAKES IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE SHUBHODAYAM
