BHAKTA NARASIMHA was born in the year 1889. He was the devotee of Lord Krishna since his childhood. He always wanted to do a pilgrimage to Tirupati, but didn't have enough money to do so.
In MACHILIPATNAM, in ANDHRA PRADESH he started a business and earned some money. Six years later, he completed his unfinished pilgrimage to Tirupati. He wanted to dedicate his life to VAISHAVA SEVA, and he started ANNA DANAM in MACHILIPATNAM, and fed a handful of people with his hard earned money.
One day hundreds of people thronged for Anna danam, and the worried NARASIMHA, prayed to Krishna to save the day. Miraculously, the bowls and utensils which had food for Ten people, were enough to Feed Hundreds who came for Anna danam.
One night, a divine figure appeared in Narasimha's dream and told him to construct a temple for Lord Panduranga. The figure also told him that Lord Panduranga will self manifest here in Machilipatnam. Narasimha decided to undertake a pilgrimage to Pandharpur in Maharashtra. When he reached Pandharpur, he met Mahipati Maharaj, who later became his spiritual master, who gave him spiritual initiation. After Narasimha told his guru about his dream, his guru asked him to take a large stone from CHANDRA BHAGHA River, and use it as corner stone for the temple.
CHANDRA BHAGHA was in full flood that day, and as Narasimha prayed, Chandra bhagaha retreated a bit, showing a large black stone, allowing Narasimha to collect it. After coming back to Machilipatnam, Narasimha started the construction of the temple. In addition to the main temple for Lord Panduranga, he constructed many other small shrines for the great devotees of Lord like Hanuman, Ambarish, Prahlada and others. Narasimha was worried that still an idol of PANDURANGA has not been made, and the muhurta for consecration was fast approaching.
BHAGAWAN PANDURANGA appeared in Narasimhas dream, and said that he himself will manifest in the temple, and there is no need of an idol.
News of this spread like wild fire, and in 1929, The whole of MACHILIPATNAM was near the temple to watch Bhagawan manifest in the temple. The British officers termed this a hoax and closed the temple doors, and asked the crowds to diaperse. When Narasimha begged them, and the crowd refused to leave, the officers kept police around the temple, and threatened to punish Narasimha if the things do not happen the way he was saying will happen.
At the time of the muhurta, tumultuous sound came from inside the locked doors of the innermost chamber of the temple. Hearing this great sound, the government officials ordered to open the doors of the chamber. But in spite of all the efforts, the doors could not be opened. At that time, Bhakta Narasimha could see that the great saints Dhyanadev and Tukaram were installing the beautiful deity of Lord Panduranga and Sage Narada was offering the obeisances to the Lord.
The doors of the temple then opened on their own accord. Everybody present there saw a beautiful deity of Lord Panduranga in the Sanctum Sanctorum.
The temple still is in MACHILIPATNAM, in a town called CHILAKALAPUDI, and is one of the rarest and powerful temples, where the idol is not man made, and is manifestation of Bhagawan himself.
