A SHORT STORY ABOUT A GREAT DEVOTEE BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP
Once NAMADEVA, a great devotee of Krishna, was singing to PANDURANGA. After he finished his Bhajan, he was shocked to see tears in the eyes of Bhagawan. PANDURANGA appeared in his dream, and said that the tears were for CHOKHAMELA, his devotee, who's last wish is preventing him from attaining Moksha. C
HOKHAMELA'S last wish was to be buried in front of the temple, facing PANDURANGA VITTHALA'S Idol. CHOKHAMELA died in an accident when a brick wall collapsed, and many pilgrims died in the tragedy. As it was difficult to identify the bodies, they were given a mass burial. PANDURANGA asked NAMADEVA to locate his bones and bury them in front of the temple as per his wish.
When NAMADEVA asked him how to locate the bones of CHOKHAMELA from the mass grave, he asked NAMADEVA to get the bones near his ear, and whichever bones are chanting his name, are the bones of CHOKHAMELA.
Th next day NAMADEVA located CHOKHAMELA'S bones and buried them as instructed by PANDURANGA. To this day, the samadhi of CHOKHAMELA which NAMADEVA built stands before the temple, may be still chanting PANDURANGA'S name.
