SHORT STORY To Begin the DAY About the Origin of MARKANDEYA PURANAš
Once upon a time, Drona ā no, not that Drona who taught the Pandavas; this Drona was the youngest son of the Rishi Mandapala, Married a beautiful woman named Tarkshi.
Due to a series of events, She was Cursed by Durvasa to become a Bird, when she was 3 months Pregnant. Upon transforming, She Flew to Kurukshetra.
On the 12th day of battle, Arjuna was to fight Bhagadatta, a Renowned warrior who fights riding a powerful Elephant Suprateeka. Before the War began that Day, Srikrishna instructs Arjuna to aim at the huge bell hanging around his neck of elephant Suprateeka. The bell falls on the ground and in the fierce battle between Bhagadatta and Arjuna, Bhagadatta gets killed.
At the completion of the War that Day, Krishna and Arjuna walk in the battlefield, Srikrishna Reaches the Place where the Bell of Suprateeka Fell and lifts the bell. To Arjuna's Surprise, there was Tarkshi (bird) with her 4 hatched beautiful children.
Krishna said to Arjuna, Before the war began, This bird Tarkshi that laid 4 eggs, nad requested me to save her children, and hence I asked you to hit Suprateeka's Bell to Shelter them. Krishna touched the 4 little birds, and they Chant praises to Krishna in human voices.
Krishna, pleased with their Bhakti, told them, that to the east of the battlefield, Thereās a Mountain range called VINDHYA, and asks to make that Pious place, which is the divine abode of MA DURGA, their home and Said that, One day MARKANDEYA MAHARSHI will visit them, and that they need to give him all the Secret knowledge, that he has imparted into them, by his Touch.
The four birds offered their Respects to Krishna and flew to the Vindhya Mountains. Where the Birds met sage Markandeya and passed on the Knowledge and Experience that Krishna gave them, what later came to be known as the āMARKANDEYA PURANAā.
Durga Saptashati, one of the most Celebrated Scripture Regarding the Practices of the Divine Mother Durga, is part of the Markandeya Purana.
The four Birds came to be known as DHARMA PAKSHI.
The Area surrounding the present Shrine, Vindhyavasini, particularly Motiya Talab and Gerua Talab, is said to be the place where these Four birds still live in their subtle form, imparting knowledge to Genuine Seekers
