PARAMACHARYA OF KANCHI SRI CHANDRASHEKHARENDRA MAHASWAMY, was once giving darshan to Devotees when a rich man from Kumbakonam, came with a silk cloth bundle, saying that he brought PRASADAM of the RIDRABHISHEKAM he had performed with 11 GHANAPATIS, to MADHYARJUNA MAHALINGAM.
Swamy, closed his eyes for a while, and did not touch the PRASADAM that was brought to him. All were surprised, as Swamy ji never disrespects PRASADAM. He asked the rich man, was SRI VENKATESHA GHANAPATI, also part of the team that performed RUDRABHISHEKAM? The rich man said carelessly that the old hag was also there, and he did not recite NAMAKAM AND CHAMAKAM with precision.
Swamiji's eyes reddened with anger, and he told in staunch angry voice. Do you know who VENKATESHA GHANAPATI is? Right from the age of 11 till this ripe age of 70, he chanted RUDRAM everyday without fail, and took care of the village Shiva temple as a priest, and also the GOSHALA attached to the temple with all care. Whatever he earned mostly, he gave to the temple and the cows. You have the audacity to insult such a person who has attained siddhas though his selfless devotion to Shiva and the cows, in front of the whole village? You know what your insult has done to him? He fell sick. Run to him, fall to his feet, and beg for forgiveness. If you are lucky enough, you will reach in time. Else, this sin will haunt you for generations.
Scared, the rich man ran to his village, only to find out that he left his body to the abode of Shiva. The rich man, in a matter of one year lost all his riches, and to earn a livelihood, left Kumbakonam, and settled in Kashi as a Cook. His progeny till date, suffers from the effects of this sin, and are still suffering in utmost poverty.
