SHORT STORY TO BEGIN THE DAY WITH😊

Banasura was a evil demon, who became very powerful with the boon by Brahma, that he can only be killed by a virgin. Goddess Parvati was born to one king called Bharatha and was named KUMARI.

She grew up with staunch Bhakti to Bhagawan Shiva, and did severe penance to get married to him. Shiva agreed, and the auspicious time for the marriage was decided to be before sunrise. Narada, who was worried that if the marriage happens then Banasura will not be killed, assumed the form of a cock.

As Shiva with his ganas was reaching the venue, narada crowed. Thinking that the auspicious muhurta has passed, Shiva returned.back, along with his entourage. Enraged KUMARI, threw all the ornaments and rice that was prepared for the marriage into the sea, and vowed to remain a KANYA through her life. And it is believed that the rice became sand, and ornaments colourful seashells. Surprisingly, to date, the sand on the shore of Kanyakumari is like grains of rice.

Banasura enchanted by the beauty of Kumari, came to marry her by force, and she killed him with her mace and chakra. Upon the request of NARADA & PARASHURAMA, she agreed to stay back on earth till the end of Kaliyuga, and became an idol. ADISHESHU, presented the idol with a lustrous diamond nose ring, and the temple was bulit for MA KANYA KUMARI, on the,shore where the idol was facing East to the sea.

The temple was renovated 3000 years ago by the Pandyan kings. Gradually, the East entrance to the temple was closed because, the bright light emanating from the nose ring of the idol was mistaken by the ships as a light house, and they would come towards the shore and get hit to the large granite rocks in the sea. Now the entrance to the temple is North facing.

Even today, the presence of MA KANYA KUMARI can be felt with sounds of anklets and bangles, every full moon, when we can see the Sun setting and Moon rising at the Horizon. Such a divine place is sadly being invaded by Christians, and it is disheartening to see numerous churches built in every nook and corner of KANYA KUMARI.
