SHORT STORY OF KRISHNAšļø
Once upon a time there was a great devotee of Krishna called MADHAVENDRA PURI, who lived on Govardhana Giri, and served in GOPAL TEMPLE as a priest. One day he decided to go to JAGANNATHA PURI and set out immediately.
On the way, he came to a place called REMUNA, which has a temple dedicated to BHAGAWAN GOPINATH. Having darshan of the beautiful idol of Gopinath, MADHAVENDRA PURI was overwhelmed and danced with Joy. The temple was BHOGA KSHETRA, and everyday various types of NAIVEDYAM were served to Bhagawan.
As he was talking to the Pujari ji, A deliciously smelling SWEET RICE dish was brought in 12 pots to be offered to Bhagawan. The pujari told him that it is called GOPINATH KSHIRA, and it's not prepared anywhere in the world, as the recipe is a secret. Every evening NAIVEDYAM is offered in 12 pots to Bhagawan, and only the privileged people, belonging to royalty, get to eat that prasdam.
MADHAVENDRA PURI, was so mesmerized by the smell of the sweet, that he desired to eat that. The next moment he realised how greedy he was to eye the NAIVEDYAM of Paramatma, and immediately vowed to do Prayaschitta, by observing Nirjala fast( fasting without water). He sat in a corner in the temple and started chanting Krishna's name.
The pujari after the NAIVEDYAM ritual, closed the temple, and went home to sleep. KRISHNA appeared in his dream and told the priest that his dear devotee MADHAVENDRA PURI needs to be given a pot of GOPINATH KSHIRA, that he stole and hid behind the idol, in the Sanctum Sanctorum, from the 12 pots offered.
The pujari woke up startled, bathed and opened the temple, and found the pot of the sweet rice. He took the rice and announced that who's ever name is MADHAVENDRA PURI, should come and take the pot of GOPINATH KSHIRA, sent to him by Bhagawan GOPINATH himself.
MADHAVENDRA came and identified himself, and the Pujari gave him the pot, and bowed to him, saying that he is the most fortunate one. MADHAVENDRA was stunned after listening to the story from th pujari, and cried tears of joy.
To this day, BHAGAWAN GOPINATH of REMUNA, is known as KSHIRA CHOR GOPINATH- The one who stole a pot of rice for his devotee š
