Morningâs SHORT DHARMIC STORY 31/8/23:
There was Once a King of Chera Dynasty named KULASHEKHARA. Apart from being a great king, He was a great devotee of Bhagawan Vishnu and Any devotee on a Pilgrimage was served by KULASHEKHARA with all devotion and Reverence.
He would spend most of his time in listening to scriptures like Ramayana, Bhagawata etc and doing Vaishnava seva. He would be so engrossed in the scriptures that he would visualise them as if the events are happening in front of him.
One day while listening to RAMAYANA, the event was RAMA RAVANA war, where Ravana was shooting innumerable arrows at him, and Rama alone was countering him.
KULASHEKHARA immediately climbed his horse and marched towards the ocean shouting "My Rama is fighting all alone, and I will do my squirrels service to him". With all his staff frantically running after him, he rode into the ocean, to be Saved by none other than PRABHU SRIRAMA.
Rama picked him up in his embrace like a Child, and left him on the shore, saying the war was won, and Ravana was killed, Ma SEETHA was Rescued safely.
The profound devotion of KULASHEKHARA made him a ALWAR (the 12 great saints of Vaishnava system)
He later gave his kingdom to his son, and went on pilgrimage to 108 Divya deshams (108 Vaishnava pilgrimages) and became an ardent devotee of TIRUMALA VENKATESHWARA
Before he left his mortal body, he was told, he would attain moksha after another birth. To this he asked Bhagawan VENKATESHWARA for a boon that he be made a threshold in front of Him (deity) in TIRUMALA, So that he could always see Bhagawan.
So, KULASHEKHARA ALWAR, became the threshold to the Sanctum Sanctorum. It is a stone step between the Sayana Mandapam and the Garbhagriha. It is given the name KULASHEKHARA PADI.
Rituals that cannot be accommodated in the Sanctum are performed here. From Kulasekharapadi.
