A REAL LIFE STORY ABOUT A BRITISH, WHO FOUND HIS GURU AND HIS PURPOSE IN LIFE šļø
( 18/9/23)
It was the year 1942, an army officer of the western command, L.P FARREL was invited by the king of KUMAON for a trip to the Himalayas. L.P FARREL though a British was highly influenced by Hinduism, and he started following the rituals of Hinduism and even adopted vegetarianism.
He was in search of a Guru, and his mind was always in constant exploration of truth. He left to the Himalayas along with the King and Queen and their entourage, with a desperate wish that he would be guided to a Guru in the Himalayas. They reached the dense forests near Nainital, and were so enticed by the nature, they camped there, and spent the evening with fun and frolic.
At night, L.P FARREL retired to his tent, and soon slipped into deep sleep. Suddenly he heard a voice asking him to vacate the Place, and saw a Sadhu floating in the air . He immediately switched on his torch and the form disappeared. He assumed it was a dream which looked extremely real, and slept again. Again the same incident repeated, and the Sadhu asked him to come up to the North eastern mountain, if he wanted to know more.
L P. FARREL got up with a start, and was confused. It was 3.30 A.M, and he strongly believed that it was a message, and his curiosity to explore the truth made him go ahead and climb the North eastern mountain as he was told. He left at Sunrise and climbed for 3.5 hours relentlessly as an invisible voice guided him through. He reached a place gasping for breath and sat on a slab tired, asphyxiated and exhausted.
He then heard a voice again, to climb downwards that slab into a narrow cave. As he did, he saw a Sadhu inside the cave, all Skin and bones, but glowing in a divine effulgence. Involuntarily he kneeled before the Sadhu and touched his feet.
The Sadhu put his frail hand on the head of FARREL and he felt suddenly energetic and lively. Then the Sadhu said that they need to vacate the place as his disciple of many janmas would arrive to that place where they were camping, as per his subtle instructions, and that he needs to finish his balance karma and attain enlightenment by getting instructions from him.
FARREL remained silent, and asked with folded hands after a moment, "SWAMI ji, You are all pervasive and powerful, why would you appear to me, and make me come here guiding me all through to your divine presence when you could have as well guided your disciple directly to you".
The Sadhu smiled and said, nothing happens without a reason, if it was not your Prarabdha to visit this place and see me, you wouldn't have come here. This is the beginning of your spiritual journey due to your poorva sukrutha. When FARREL begged to be accepted as his disciple, the Sadhu said when the time is ripe, he will get his call, and asked him to
Leave.
FARREL descended back silently, and this incident changed his perception and orientation of his life completely. He left his Job and dedicated himself to spirituality embracing Hinduism totally.
(Narrated by FARREL himself on May 17, 1959 to Saptahik Hindustan).
The story is an apt example, that if we have real intention and inquisitiveness to know the truth, and if our quest to find a Guru is honestly profound, Guru reaches us in some way or the other š
