A beautiful story from the apostles of Sri Ramakrishna paramahamsaš
There was once a rich couple, who would always listen to the sermons of a great guru, and over a period of time, they decided that they would renounce everything, and go to Kashi, and spend their life to attain Spiritual elevation.
One fine day, they started walking to Kashi renouncing everything. The husband was walking in the front while the wife followed him. While walking, the husband saw a huge diamond in the path, and he thought, if his wife saw it, her mind would be diverted, and She might change her mind from vairagya and renunciation.
So he covered the diamond with his leg, and started pushing it into the ground so that his wife might not notice it. His wife saw this and asked him what he was doing, and he told her the truth about the diamond, and how He was hiding it from her so that it wouldn't change her mind from going to Kashi, as it's a natural instinct of women to be attracted to jewellery and diamonds.
The wife laughed and said, even after listening to Guruji for so many years, you still differentiate between diamond and mud. Vairagya is when you consider both the same. This story was told by Sri Ramakrishna as an example of PREJUDICE or as it is called ABHIJATAYA.
Sometimes we assume too much of ourselves, and belittle the others with prejudice. It isn't wrong to form an opinion, but definitely wrong to form a biased opinion. Sanatana Dharma encourages Jigyasa or inquisitiveness and asking questions, and forming an opinion, rather than blindly following it.
