SHORT DHARMIC STORY for the EVENING-21/8/23:
Long ago, in Orissa, there was a butcher named SADAN KASAI, who was an ardent devotee of Prabhu JAGANNATHA. He was a Karma Yogi, and did his job of selling meat as he was born into it. But he spent every second of his life chanting ASHTAKSHARI Mantra (OM NAMO NARAYANAYA NAMAHA).
After handing over his business to his son, with the permission of his wife, he began a pilgrimage to Puri, renouncing everything. On his way, he was given shelter by a very rich man. In the night, the merchant's wife, who was not happy with her husband, chopped off his head, and put the blame on SADAN KASAI, saying that he tried to molest her, and killed her husband. He was taken to the judge, who ordered his both hands to be chopped off.
SADAN KASAI accepted this as god's way of cleansing his karma and went on his pilgrimage. As he reached Puri, to his surprise, the priests, and the temple staff were waiting for him with a palanquin. The priest said that JAGANNATHA appeared in his dream and ordered him to wait for his devotee, who can be identified with chopped off hands. Though shocked Sadan reached the temple in the palanquin, and once inside the sanctum Sanctorum, he had the darshana of Prabhu JAGANNATHA.
Overwhelmed with joy, and Bhakti, he prostrated to the feet of Bhagawan. And asked, why he was put through the humiliation of being a murderer? who the rich merchant and his wife were? why his hands were chopped away & again restored? and why is god merciful and benevolent to give him his darshana?
PRABHU JAGANNATHA said that in his previous life, he was a devout Bhakta of him, and lived his life astute and in a Dharmic way. Once while he was chanting, a cow ran past him, and behind the cow was another man looking for her. When the man asked if he saw his cow, because he was chanting, he pointed to the fields, where the cow ran.
That man was a butcher, He Caught the Cow and killed her, because of that, though unknowingly, he became a part of GO HATYA, and had to take multiple births, for 3 KALPAS (four yugas together make one Kalpa)
To Relinquish his sin of Aiding Gohatya and this was the last Janma, and he attained the darshana of JAGANNATHA.
