THE DIVINE BIOGRAPHY OF SRI. SADASHIVA BRAHMENDRA SWAMYJI, THE REVERED SAINT, RAM BHAKT, AUTHOR, POET AND ENLIGHTENED SADHUšļøšš
In the early 18th century, in KUMBAKONAM, a boy of 4, SIVARAMA KRISHNA who was hyperactive, was playing around, and his pious mother PARVATI, took him into her lap, and lovingly told him, to utilise his energies to chant Rama Nama, the kid became calm listening to Rama Nama, and his mother ordered him to chant Rama Nama 3 crore times.
From then on, every second of his life was filled with Rama Nama and by the time he reached 16, he was enlightened after completing 3 crore Rama Nama Japa. He travelled to KANCHI and Became the disciple of 57th Peetadhipathi of Kanchi Kamakoti mutt Sri Paramasivendra Saraswathi Swami.
He was a fierce orator and would pick arguments with all who were against Vedas, and shut them up with his fiery arguments. Sometimes these would lead to fights too. So, Sri Paramasivendra Saraswathi Swami, ordained SIVARAMA KRISHNA into Sanyasa and gave him the name SADASHIVA BRAHMENDRA and asked him to maintain restraint and not pick arguments and fights.
Taking his Guruvakya( the word of his Guru) as an order, he stopped talking completely and spent his time Travelling and meditating. Once he came to the banks of River Kaveri and chose a small island in between the river and slipped into deep meditation. One day, Kaveri's waters rose into a dangerous flood, and though the people were shouting and calling SRI SADHASHIVA BRAHMENDRA SWAMI to come back, he was unperturbed.
As the waters rose all thought that Swamyji was no more. After 4 months, a farmer went to the island to collect sand, and as he started to dig with a spade, blood oozed out from the dunes. Scared as he carefully removed the sand, there was SRI SADHASHIVA BRAHMENDRA SWAMI in serene meditation.
As days passed he attained the epitome of enlightenment and was always in highest state of Joy from meditation, like an Avadhoota, completely detached to the physical and material realm.
One day, he was walking with just a koupeena( loin cloth), passing through a garden, where a Muslim nawab was with his wives. Angered by his appearance, the nawab chopped off the hand of SWAMY ji who walked away completely unaware of what happened to him. The nawab got scared and ran to him with his chopped hand and asked for forgiveness.
SWAMY ji just smiled, and put the chopped hand in its place, and it got stuck as if nothing happened, and walked away. Once a messenger from Kanchi came with a message from his guru, who asked him to leave his MOUNA VRATA and compose Keerthanas and author books of knowledge, which would help many. T
aking the orders of his guru, SRI SADHASHIVA BRAHMENDRA SWAMI sang the keerthana "Pibare Rama Rasam", one of the most mellifluous song on Rama. He composed Many songs and authored complex books like BRAHMA SUTRA VRITTI, YOGA SUDHAKARA, SIDDHANTA KALPAVALLI etc. which are the epitome of erudition.
He reached NERUR, near KARUR, TIRUCHIRAPALLI, and spent a lot of time there with his disciples. One day, he told his disciples that he would enter JEEVA SAMADHI, on VAISHAKHA SHUKLA DASHAMI,( May 1756) and told them that on the 9th day, there would arise a BILVA VRIKSHA on the samadhi, and he would send a SHIVALINGAM, that should be placed under the tree.
As told by him, on the 9th day, a big BILVA TREE (Not a Sapling but a TREE) appeared on his SAMADHI, and as all were looking at it in amazement, a sanyasi came with a beautiful Shivalingam
Saying that he came from Varanasi, & SRI SADHASHIVA BRAHMENDRA SWAMI had appeared in his dream & ordered him to bring a SHIVALINGAM that would be found in GANGA.
His disciples placed the SHIVALINGAM on his SAMADHI, which even today answers people who have real shraddha.
Om Namah Shivayaš
