A BRIEF LIFE STORY OF THE GREAT SAINT SRI VYASARAYA TEERTHA THAT WE ALL SHOULD KNOW 😊

Long ago, at a place called MULABAGAL, a Narasimha Kshetra, a guru Sri Sripada Raja theertha, was teaching his favourite disciple a word in Sanskrit and gave 18 meanings to that one word and asked him to introspect on that word.

Sanskrit is a complex language, the words of which can be interpreted according to the level of intellect of the learner. Hence it is called GARBHA BHASHA or GUHYA BHASHA (This is being exploited by many today to misinterpret our scriptures and drive us away from Hinduism). The Disciple then goes into a cave and starts meditating on the word, and loses track of time, and it gets dark.

When one of the other students came in search of him, he saw that he's been entangled by a large cobra. He ran to Sripada Raja theertha, and narrated what he saw, and both ran to the cave, where the boy was meditating with a cobra entangled. Sripada Raja THEERTHA, realised that the cobra was his Guru Padmanabha theertha. When he offered his obeisance to him, the cobra replied that he came to bless the boy as he would be a great guru in future, and also in future, he has the danger of Snake poison, and his blessing will now make him immune of that danger and vanished.

With all the noise around, the disciple's meditation broke, and seeing his guru in front of him, apologised for the delay and said that he found 64 more meanings to the one word. Seeing his erudition, Saripada Raja theertha got very happy and handed him over the responsibility of doing Pooja to the moola Devata in the mandir. He is none other than VYASA RAJA THEERTHA, a great siddha, and Raja guru of the Vijayanagara empire.

One day while Vyasa Raja theertha was performing pooja, he saw a closed box in the pooja mantapa ,and upon opening it, he found mesmerizing idols of Srikrishna, Rukmini and Satyabhama. Seeing those beautiful idols, Vyasa Raja theertha got into a trance, and taking the shaligrama shilas in front of him, like cymbals( kartala), he started singing.

So beautiful was his devotion filled song that Krishna's idol took the form of a human and started dancing to the song. Listening to the sound, Sripada Raja theertha came to the pooja room, and as soon as he entered, Krishna disappeared. Vyasa Raja theertha came out of his

Trance, to find out, that the shaligrama shilas broke. He apologised to his guru, who with love and happiness to his student, praised his devotion.

Later VYASA RAJA THEERTHA became the Raja Guru of Krishna Deva Raya. Once astrologers predicted that Krishna Deva Raya was passing through a planetary

Phase called KUHU YOGA, and during that phase, that person if he is a king, would be killed by a serpent.

VYASA RAJA THEERTHA then took over the throne to protect the king. One day a huge cobra came into the court of VYASA RAJA THEERTHA. He removed his

Angavastra ( the cloth that covers the upper part of the body) and threw it on the cobra killing it (This was the prediction and protection by Sri Padmanabha Theertha). Krishna Devaraya got crowned a king again.

Sri VYASA RAJA THEERTHA was not only a great saint, and Siddha who possessed Ashta siddhis(the 8 supernatural powers), and who could see Nava nNidhis (The 9 treasures). He was a great devotee who could make sakshat Narayana dance to his devotion. He was also with great ministerial skills and spread the wealth and strength of spirituality.

Let us take pride in our saints and gurus and be indebted to them.
