Long ago, there was a Sage, who had many disciples. One day, while he was collecting fruits from the forest, he saw a badly injured Fox, with broken legs, unable to walk, and in a pathetic situation. He felt sad, that the fox would either be eaten by another animal, or starve to death. He went back to the Ashram , and when the sage asked him the reason why he appears sad, he narrated the incident to the sage. The sage said, if the fox had the Aayu, or fortune to live, God would provide him some way or the other.
The next day when the disciple went to the forest again, he saw that the fox was healthy though it was immobile and was surprised. Curious to find out how, he waited hiding on a tree, to see who brought the fox food. After a while, he saw that a Lion came with his hunt, ate some and threw the remaining to the fox, who happily ate it. The disciple went to the ashram and told the sage what he saw. The sage smiled and said you would get what you ought to get. The disciple thought if what the Guru says so is right, then he would sit the whole day, and God would provide him. He sat the entire day, and when nothing happened, he went to the ashram with a long face. When the sage asked the reason, he said Guruji whatever you said is wrong, God doesn't provide when we are hungry.
The sage smiled and said, Aim to be the Lion, rather than the fox.
We should grasp the right meaning of the incident and leave the results to God. This story from Katha Sarith Sagar teaches us that Opinions are often formed with our experiences, but what determines our orientation is our perception to the experienceš
