A SHORT DHARMIC STORY TO END THE DAYđ
In TIRUMALA, THONDAMAN CHAKRAVARTHY, who was the brother of MA PADMAVATI, built a grand temple for BHAGAWAN VENKATESHWARA. Everyday, he himself, would open the temple, clean the Sanctum Sanctorum, and do pooja and Archana to SRINIVASA.
He was a great devotee, and often BHAGAWAN conversed with him. Because of his great devotion, he attained a divine vision, and could see Devatas come to the temple to worship him.
Gradually, Pride took over him, and one day while conversing with BHAGAWAN,
He said "I have constructed this grand temple for you, given you exquisite, precious jewels, and I worship you with Golden flowers. Even the Devatas come to worship you in this grand temple. Am I not your greatest devotee Bhagawan? "
BHAGAWAN VENKATESHWARA remained silent.
The next morning, when TONDAMAN CHAKRAVARTI, opened the temple, and as he started clearing the Nirmalya(dry flowers), he found fresh flowers and Tulsi leaves made of clay. Surprised, as the temple was locked, he asked Bhagawan the same.
Bhagawan replied that a devotee named BHEEMA, a Potter, who lives downhill, made his idol out of wood, and worships him every day with freshly made clay flowers and Tulasi leaves.
TONDAMAN was quite intrigued by this and went to BHEEMA'S place to meet him.
BHEEMA, who lived in a hut, was surprised to see a Royal at his house. TONDAMAN explained the incident at the temple, and said that he was eager to meet him, who BHAGAWAN considers his greatest devotee.
BHEEMA was dumbstruck by what he heard and was overwhelmed with joy. Tears filled his eyes, and he fell to the ground in happiness. BHAGAWAN VENKATESHWARA, along with MA LAKSHMI gave his darshan, and blessed him. VENKATESHWARA called BHEEMA'S wife TAMALI and asked her to give them something to eat. TAMALI quickly took a piece of freshly baked piece of a broken pot, and served Rice porridge, with curd to Bhagawan with all devotion.
Later, Ma Lakshmi gave TAMALI saree and flowers with her own hands.
BHEEMA later came to be known as TIRUVARATHI NAMBI, and both him and TAMALI attained the lotus feet of BHAGAWAN VENKATESHWARA.
To this day in TIRUMALA, the first NAIVEDYAM of CURD RICE, to BHAGAWAN VENKATESHWARA is offered on a fresh broken piece of potđ
