Tukaram - Bhakth of Vitthala

MORNING SHORT STORY 27/8/23:

Long ago, there was a great devotee of PANDURANGA VITTHALA in PANDHARPUR named TUKARAM ji. Once there was a annual pirtru karya of his father, and his wife Jijiya, gave him the list of groceries to be brought, as food needs to be cooked before Brahmins arrived for the ritual - they can eat only after the Brahmins ate after performing the ritual.

TUKARAM ji went with the list, and on the way heard a group of devotees going to VITTHALA'S temple, dancing and chanting (Sankeertan)

TUKARAM ji, engrossed in the name of PRABHU VITTHALA, went with the group, dancing and chanting his name, totally forgetting about the ritual.

Jijiya was worried as it was getting late, and if the ritual is done past 12, with the Brahmins are kept waiting for food, it will be a negative influence. Then she saw TUKARAM ji coming with bags of groceries, and felt relieved. Soon the Brahmins arrived for the ritual, and TUKARAM ji performed the SHRADDHA( death anniversary ceremony) of his father, and the Brahmins were fed with devotion, and given dakshina.

After the Brahmins left, TUKARAM ji told Jijiya, that he would go to the temple now and rest.

After a while, Jijiya saw TUKARAM ji coming home as if running, and with a worried face. When Jijiya asked what happened and why he returned so quickly, he apologized and told him that he got engrossed in VITTHALA'S chanting, and went to the temple with a group of people, and hence neither got groceries, nor come in time to do the ritual. Jijiya laughed thinking he was joking and told what all happened, and that he was going to rest in the temple.

TUKARAM ji felt overwhelmed as he understood it was none other than PANDURANGA VITTHALA, who had come in his form, and the supreme lord did SHRADDHA KARMA to his father🙏
